How menta helped Ticketmania prevent a major financial loss and protect its ecosystem

This case shows how menta goes beyond enabling resale. It acts as a protective layer for ticketing platforms.

About

Ticketmania operates in a high-frequency live entertainment environment where operational reliability and promoter trust are critical. Any large-scale fraud incident represents not only a financial risk, but also a reputational threat.

What we did

Context

In April–May 2025, during a major concert tour in Mexico, Ticketmania faced a coordinated fraud attempt that posed a significant financial and reputational risk.

Fraudulent actors were able to:

  • Acquire approximately 800 tickets
  • At symbolic or near-zero prices
  • Across 18 different events
  • Using multiple, linked user accounts

The fraudulently acquired inventory was then listed for resale inside Ticketmania’s Fan to Fan Market.

Left unchecked, the operation could have resulted in substantial financial losses, promoter disputes, and long-term damage to platform trust.

What we did

menta’s infrastructure continuously monitors resale activity across accounts, events, and payment flows.

During this period, the system identified abnormal patterns, including:

  • Multiple user accounts linked to the same bank account
  • Repeated email and payment relationships
  • Coordinated acquisition and resale behavior across events
  • Unusual pricing and volume signals

Once the pattern was confirmed, menta:

  • Blocked suspicious payouts
  • Froze connected accounts
  • Prevented settlement of fraudulent transactions
  • Isolated affected inventory before funds were released

All actions were executed automatically and without disrupting legitimate fan activity.

The outcome

Thanks to early detection and system-level intervention:

  • Approximately $7,500 USD was recovered
  • A significantly larger financial loss was prevented
  • Promoter relationships were protected
  • Reputational risk was contained
  • Incentives for repeat fraud were reduced

What could have escalated into a major operational incident was resolved quickly, quietly, and at scale.

Why it matters

Fraud in ticketing ecosystems impacts far more than revenue.

It affects fans, promoters, venues, and long-term platform credibility.

This case demonstrates how official fan-to-fan resale only works at scale when it is backed by continuous monitoring, cross-event intelligence, and enforceable controls.

Conclusion

With menta, Ticketmania was able to:

  • Detect coordinated fraud early
  • Intervene before payouts occurred
  • Prevent major financial exposure
  • Protect its ecosystem and reputation

Security is not an add-on.
It is part of the infrastructure.

“We had a real fraud situation, and menta was key. They identified the pattern, blocked the operation, and helped us protect both the promoter and our platform.”
